#4. Gut Problems

Have you ever felt knots in your belly when you were sad or nervous? This is because there is a close relationship between stress and your gut. Research has shown that stress can impact the way that your gut functions every day. Stress can slow the transit in your gut, which may lead to the re-circulation of hormones through the liver and constipation. Stress may also lead to a leaky gut, which could then lead to food sensitivities, inflammation and, in some cases, autoimmune disease.

#5. Weight Gain

According to the researchers from the University of Miami, people in stressful situations consume an average of 40 percent more than people who aren’t stressed. This evolutionary response can lead to trouble when sugary, high-fat and high-calorie foods are readily available. This increase in calories leads to weight gain, which can lead to a whole host of other health issues.

Although we’ve touched on a few of the dangers of stress, there are many more than can be avoided with the right stress management tools. In our next blog, we’ll be talking about managing stress, so please stay tuned for our next blog to learn more.
